Green Team
Estes student council started a green team in the 2014-15 school year that assisted with recycling around the building, activities in the garden and general beautification of the grounds. Our Student Council Vice-President ran on a platform that suggested that we provide such activities for our students. Because of our large student body, we could not invite all students to participate each week. In the 2014-15 school year, the Green Team invited different grade levels to participate on different weeks.
The students met in the media center at 2:30 pm on the date specified in their permission slip. They stayed after school from 2:30 pm until 4:00 pm. Parents were responsible for picking up their child at 4:00 pm from the car rider line. Parents were given the opportunity to participate with their child.
Some of the things the Green Team accomplished in the 2014-15 school year:
  • increased recycling at the school
  • did 2 litter hikes on the grounds
  • redid the Pep Memorial Garden (which looks amazing!!)
  • pulled weeds from around the school
  • rotated the compost pile in the garden
  • cleaned planters for the garden
  • did a commercial to education students and staff about recycling
  • and many other necessary projects for the garden
