Meet the Teacher

Welcome to our website!

Wow! This is my 34th year of teaching! I've been a teacher at Estes for 22 years now.

A little about me.....I graduated with honors from Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida. My degrees are in Elementary Education K-6 and Deaf Education K-12. I taught deaf children in New Jersey and West Virginia before moving to Asheville. I have a German Shepherd, Koya, and 4 cats, Simon, Moxie, Riley, and Punkin. I am also a huge fan of horses! I'm a quilter (beginner), jewelry maker, avid reader, gardener, and "Technology Queen".

Because of my background in deaf education I teach my second graders sign language each year. We say the Pledge of Allegiance and the Estes Pledge, in sign language each morning, and we use signs for "restroom", "water", "lineup", "listen", etc... My students also practice learning their five weekly word wall words by signing them for homework. This helps children remember the words by using the sense of touch and motor memory. My students become "sign language sponges"!

I look forward to working with your child this year as we prepare them to be leaders at home, school, and in the community.
