Did
you ever experience a kind word as a child that helped you accomplish a
task? Or how about feeling supported in an idea that you had, but were
afraid to move forward with it? We have all been blessed by having
someone in our lives who believed in us. They took the time to listen
and to be present. What a difference a mentor can make in a life.
Mentors
have been recognized as someone who shows a child the ropes, helped
them along and influenced them to become who they are today. Many of
America's most prominent people such as Clint Eastwood, Cal Ripken, Jr.,
and Oprah Winfrey have shared stories of the people who impacted their
lives. Mentors are all around us. Some are more silent than others and
may not even realize the influence they have on one person.
A
mentor allows you to see the hope within yourself. No one reaches the
top alone. There is and has always been someone who has guided them.
When you think back to your childhood, who encouraged you?
Take
time to reflect on who inspired you. More importantly, take time to
reflect on how you can impact the life of a child and guide them to lead
productive and fulfilling lives. Help a child realize their hopes and
dreams by simply being present. Becoming a mentor requires a small
commitment of time which ultimately can affect a child for life.
Estes
Mentor Program helps connect students with someone besides a family
member who can give extra support and encouragement through their
academic years - a mentor. The focus of the program is on the
relationship and allowing the positive relationship to consistently be a
part of the child's life support system. You can help students with
their academics, but we encourage our mentors to play a game, enjoy an
activity with their student and offer a kind, caring spirit! Everyone
needs to know that they have a support team cheering them on! If you
want to make a positive difference in a child's life by pointing out
their strengths and talents in a fun way then sign up to become a
Mentor! Our students welcome your support!
