It's that time again, when summer draws to a close and our schedule
returns to a different kind of busy! This year is a new year of new challenges and experiences, and together we will navigate them and make history! If you're anything like me, you're
ready to get back to routine, though. I am looking forward to meeting a
new group of enthusiastic students and begin the exciting journey of
third grade.
As for my background, I am a
graduate of Indiana University with a Political Science degree, and I
received my Master's of Education from Florida Atlantic University in
Boca Raton, Florida. I recently transferred from Glen Arden Elementary,
where I taught fourth grade for eight years. Prior to that, I taught in
a first and second grade classroom for children learning English as a
second language, 2nd grade for five years, and as a Writing specialist
for one year before moving here to North Carolina.
I have two daughters,
Carly, a TCR graduate in her 4th year at UNC at Chapel Hill, and Mackenzie, a rising senior at TC Roberson. We enjoy outdoors activities, including
camping and kayaking, and are also major theme park enthusiasts. My
parents live with me now, and I have two sisters.
My classroom is a place of
discovery, and I want each student to enjoy learning and feel safe to
come to school and reach for his or her goals. Please take a moment to
check out my "This I Believe" link, which is a work in progress and
draws upon my experience as a teacher and a parent.
The
success of our classroom and school depends largely on team approach
between families and myself. I hope you always know that I am listening
and want your child to succeed, wherever their skills and abilities are.
I am a collaborator, and I welcome your thoughts and ideas. The door is
open for you to participate in our classroom as a volunteer also, so
please let me know how you want to be involved.
I am
looking forward to getting to know the Estes family and becoming a part
of its rich tradition of excellence - I hope our time together is full
of great learning and lots of fun!
