Hello! My name is Alexa Shanklin and I'm very excited to be your child's teacher.
I am a native of North Carolina, having grown up in Rowan County or the small town of China Grove (just outside of Charlotte). I attended UNC Asheville, my introduction to this beautiful place, but returned “home” to begin teaching. My husband, Taylor, and I were married in February of 2015 and began making plans to return to Asheville. After completing my Master’s Degree in Reading Education we finally moved back! I immediately felt at home in Asheville and as part of the Estes family. In my spare time I enjoy running, reading, crafting, and playing with our dogs, Danger and Tayrun.
In the classroom I believe students should feel “at home”. I want all students to feel confident, cared for, and comfortable. The family mentality is important to me as students learn to work together and be considerate of one another. We all have unique talents to share as leaders and goals we can meet. Through collaboration, lots of movement, and hard work, we will all grow this year. I want to work as a team with you and your child to ensure they have a successful year in 3rd grade.
