PBIS is a framework or approach for assisting school personnel in adopting and organizing evidence-based behavioral interventions into an integrated continuum that enhances academic and social behavior outcomes for all students.
What this really means is that we are focusing on:
Identifying appropriate and expected behaviors.
Teaching students what this means and looks like in the middle school environment.
Rewarding students who meet and display these expectations on a consistent basis.
Creating plans and assistance or interventions for those students who may have difficulty meeting the expectations.
What does PBIS look like at NBMS?
We want all of our students to BE HAWKS:
H - HAVE RESPECT
A - ACT RESPONSIBLY
W - WORK TOGETHER
K - KEEP ON TASK
How Do We Celebrate Our Hawks?
Students who demonstrate that they are HAWKS...
(Attendance, Attitude / Behavior, and Academics)
will be acknowledged for their hard work and achievements every 9 weeks.
They will ALSO receive a "HAWK CARD" which gives them extra rewards and privileges for the whole next quarter.
At any point, students can also receive an immediate "Positive" by earning a PBIS wristband, which are turned in at the end of each week and students are entered in a drawing for prizes.
Students get a wristband by demonstrating the HAWK expectations. Each staff member awards at least 2 of these to deserving students each week.
